1. Introduction
This release of VSI DECset contains the following components:
Environment Manager (ENVMGR) V1.9-6
Code Management System (CMS) V4.8-13
Language-Sensitive Editor (LSE) V5.3-3
Module Management System (MMS) V4.0-5
Performance and Coverage Analyzer (PCA) V5.1-2?
Source Code Analyzer (SCA) V5.2-3
Digital Test Manager (DTM) V4.5-7
All versions of VSI DECset check for a license PAK from VMS Software, Inc. You must have a license PAK from VMS Software, Inc. to use these products.
2. New in This Release
This release of DECset V13.0-3 completes the transition of the DECset installation process from VMSINSTAL to PCSI. DECset V13.0-1 and V13.0-2 started the transition, and were released for x86-64 systems only. This kit can be installed on a system with an existing DECset kit (VMSINSTAL for Alpha and IA-64; PCSI for x86-64).
However, for x86-64 systems with DECset V13.0-1 installed, the process is a bit noisy. The issue is that the DECset V13.0-1 kit was built with DECset itself being a PCSI platform kit, with the DECset components having a PCSI dependency on the DECset product.
3. Installing and Removing DECset
This command will install all or some of the DECset components:
$ PRODUCT INSTALL DECSET [/SOURCE=kit_location]
You are asked which of the components to install.
The components can also be installed from component-specific PCSI kits if such a kit has been made available.
Removal of the DECset components are done individually; for example, to remove CMS and LSE:
$ PRODUCT REMOVE CMS, LSE
See the individual products' Release Notes for more information about them.
4. Installing a New Version of DECset (x86-64 Only)
This section is specific to an x86-64 system that already has DECset V13.0-1 installed. Installers on an Alpha or IA-64 system will not encounter the situation described below.
DECset V13.0-3 removes the dependent relationship between DECset and the component products. The reason for the change is that PCSI enforces certain conditions that made managing the DECset components a bit more challenging than expected.
Below is the output of an installation on an x86-64 system that had the DECset V13.0-1 kit installed previously. Note that the defaults for all questions were taken throughout the dialog.
Where things get a bit noisy is after the testing procedures for the installed components have run. The below output is related to CMS; as this system also had MMS and DTM installed, there is similar output for those products as well.
%PCSI-I-ZEROREF, product VSI X86VMS CMS V4.8-13 is no longer referenced by another product
At the completion of the current operation, the reference count for this product will be zero. This means that no other installed products have identified this product as a software dependency requirement. You have the option of removing this product as part of the current operation.
Answer YES
to the next question if you want to remove VSI X86VMS CMS
V4.8-13.
Do you want to take this action? [NO] Do you want to continue? [YES]
What PCSI is doing is stating that the "platform" DECset product from V13.0-1 is about to be replaced by a non-platform DECset product. Given that CMS had been dependent upon the DECset product in the V13.0-1 kit, PCSI is warning that the "platform" DECset product is no longer installed, and is offering the ability to remove the version of CMS that was just installed.
Since CMS was selected to be installed, accept the default answer of NO. Similarly, accept the default answer of YES to continue the installation.
Below is the log of an actual DECset installation.
