#VSI Language-Sensitive Editor Version 5.3-3

Release Notes

#1. Introduction

VSI Language-Sensitive Editor (LSE) Version 5.3-3 for OpenVMS x86-64, IA-64, and Alpha Systems is part of VSI DECset Version 13.0-3 for OpenVMS x86-64, IA-64, and Alpha Systems.

VSI LSE V5.3-2 was not released.

All versions of VSI LSE check for a license PAK from VMS Software, Inc. You must have a license PAK from VMS Software, Inc. to use this product.

#2. New in This Release

VSI LSE V5.3-3 for IA-64 and Alpha systems has no code changes from version V5.3-1 of VSI LSE. What did change is the mechanism by which LSE is built; most of the DECset products now follow a common build and packaging procedure.

LSE V5.3-3 is the first release for the x86-64 architecture.

Unfortunately, there is still a bug specific to x86-64 that has proven to be quite difficult to fix. We are not aware of any other problems with this release; members of VMS Engineering have been using it for several months. We are working on tracking down this bug.

Under certain conditions, the command SHOW LANGUAGE issued from the LSE> prompt will result in an access violation.

Other than the above x86-64-specific issue, this version is functionally equivalent to HP's LSE V5.2 with the following change:

The LSE DECwindows interface now works as expected on IA-64 systems. It did not work in the prior two releases of HP DECset on IA-64. LSE on OpenVMS Alpha did not have this problem.
